“The mixed basket of weather kept everyone on their toes,” says @maroesjka555 after the 4-day Tour du Cap.
With two hill-top finishes and a hill Time Trial, this race was ideal for climbers, a perfect route for @zanri_speedster.
After really establishing herself at Nationals, Zanri took this race head-on, claiming the top step 3 out of the 4 days and the overall win.
“I came into the tour with the objective to fight hard on every stage. It suits me well, and racing with men made it a very hard four days on the bike. I was also struggling with some flu symptoms throughout, so I was happy that I was able to push myself so hard.” Says Zanri.
It was @ashleighparsons_ first Tour du Cap and a bucket list event.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect as we were racing with the men, but after the first day, I felt we had settled in well. The racing was fast and hard, something we don’t get to experience too often as our bunches are always so small. I’m really satisfied with how I rode. I’ve come a long way, and I’m proud of how it went. I’m also extremely proud of Zanri. She was absolutely unstoppable on every single day.”
Zanri mentioned that she didn’t specifically prepare for the tour but used her current form to carry her across the finish line. Having had a good season that started in October last year at the Boland 100 Miler, she’s satisfied with finishing on such a high note.
“It was an awesome feeling to win the overall tour but really special to win three tough stages alongside some strong competition. It was also really nice to have the team with me during the tour and supporting on and off the road.”
After a successful couple of months, she’ll be looking to take a bit of a breather until the refocus on upcoming goals later in the year.
As for the team, this was another opportunity to trial and test racing together.
