We all know that cycling opportunities can be rather limited in our country. Especially with the increasing cost of equipment, entry fees, supplements, training support, and travel – to name but a few.
It is becoming increasingly tough to pursue a career in racing, and this doesn’t include the daily challenges that go along with life in general. But when you have a burning desire to race, to compete, to fulfil a dream, it is hard not to give it your all.
Without the support of sponsors, dedicated individuals driving programmes, family and peers attempting to find the same fulfilment, it is near impossible to reach for those rainbows.
With that in mind, Reach For Rainbows was brought to life, and while it has taken a little longer than originally planned, we are taking steps in the right direction.
It is our intention to create a space where we can assist others to make opportunities possible. Not only in cycling, but in life – with access to education, learnerships and life skills. All round life balance is key in developing great athletes, but also happy people too.
Our Rookie programme is focused on identifying young women who show potential as promising cyclists and are interested in a wholistic life.
Working with them to nurture their talent, we also hope to positively impact their life too. This is a big task but starts with one life at a time.
