Opportunity Changes Everything

At Reach for Rainbows, we believe that talent should never be limited by circumstance.

Every young rider has dreams. Some dream of representing South Africa. Others dream of building a meaningful career, supporting their families, or simply discovering what they’re capable of. But dreams alone aren’t enough. Without opportunity, even the most talented athletes can find themselves unable to take the next step.

That’s where we come in.

Our mission has never been just about creating faster cyclists. It’s about creating opportunities that allow young women to grow as athletes, students, professionals and confident individuals.

One of those stories belongs to Devinique Cleophas.

When Devinique first saw Reach for Rainbows racing in the Western Province Road Cycling series, she noticed something different. She saw a team that worked together, believed in one another and carried themselves with purpose. The more she learned about Reach for Rainbows, the more she realised this wasn’t simply a racing team.

It was a place where education mattered just as much as performance.

Today, Devinique is part of our team and recently began a learnership through MDCS Skills Academy. Alongside her cycling, she’s developing practical workplace skills, learning how businesses operate, improving her problem-solving abilities and building the confidence she’ll need long after her racing career.

Like many young athletes, balancing training, studying and everyday life hasn’t always been easy. But with guidance, structure and support, she’s learned how to manage competing priorities without giving up on her ambitions.

That’s exactly why these opportunities matter.

Cycling teaches discipline, resilience and commitment. Education builds knowledge, confidence and long-term career opportunities. Together, they create a foundation that lasts well beyond the finish line.

Our support doesn’t stop with a learnership.

We help remove the financial barriers that often prevent talented riders from reaching their potential by, where we can, provide equipment, coaching, bicycles, race entries, training support and the resources needed to compete with confidence.

For many riders, these are opportunities that would simply be out of reach otherwise.

Yet the greatest transformation isn’t measured by race results.

Since joining Reach for Rainbows, Devinique says she has become more confident, more open and more determined. She speaks about learning to take responsibility, embracing challenges and understanding that mistakes are part of growth. Those lessons will stay with her wherever life takes her.

Her goal is to earn South African colours while continuing her education and expanding her career opportunities.

That’s what success looks like to us.

Every rider who joins Reach for Rainbows has their own journey. Some will stand on podiums. Some will discover careers they never imagined. Some will become mentors for the next generation.

All of them deserve the opportunity to find out what’s possible.

When you support Reach for Rainbows, you’re not simply supporting cycling.

You’re investing in education.

You’re building confidence.

You’re creating careers.

You’re helping young women discover that their future is far bigger than they ever imagined.

Because sometimes, all it takes to change a life is the opportunity to begin.
