It was a special way to honour the Jeanné Nel Track Classic with great results on Friday.
“It was exciting to see how many women showed up to compete, making the competition harder and the bunch bigger. I was also satisfied that the racing was at full gas – I love going fast” says Jesse.
It was Maroesjka’s first time back on the track in 10 months. “We try to race the bunch, and not just the women. Going for overall honours in the race, is the aim. Getting top 3 in all of the events is a cherry on top.”
The number of competing women equaled the Veteran Men which is a great sign for the growth of women’s cycling in South Africa.
“It was fun to be back on the track and to test the legs before heading to Egypt on Wednesday,” mentioned Charlissa.
Maroesjka added, “On the evening, 3rd place was awarded to Amber, 2nd to Jesse Woods and 1st place to me, however, I was later notified by the race organizer that Charlissa came 2nd and Jesse 3rd. The points for the overall podium is always tricky to workout, but glad they could pick it up and rectify that.”
With African Track Champs happening next week, this is a great confidence boost for Jesse and Charlissa.
