“Being my first UCI World Championships on the road, I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it was going to be an amazing experience and I could feel the Flemish passion for cycling roar with excitement. Its always such an honor being able to represent your country at any international event, however this was extra special, being in a country so passionate about cycling – the crowds were wild.
The course was like no other. Typical flandrian styled cobbled climbs, from narrow roads to 90* corners, feeling the legs screaming but numbed by the roaring crowds. My first UCI World Road Championship will be one for the books, crossing the finish line, my heart filled with pride, and having the opportunity to fly the South African flag in the heart of cycling – what an epic experience!
