Danielle van Niekerk & Mia Fortuien competed at the South African National Omnium Championships (a Track cycling event) whereby both athletes
won the title of being SA Omnium Champion in their age categories, and will have the privilage of wearing the SA Flag across their chest.
“This was an extremely emotional victory for me, recovering from a broken collarbone in May, I had no idea how my body would respond to the racing.” – Danielle van Niekerk
Mia Fortuin said: “This was my first experience racing at altitude and I didn’t really have any expectations, so having won the title was amazing! I had so much fun and I really enjoyed being able to race with the elites, this made the racing competitive, and I was able to learn allot from everyone. I’m excited for the next bit of track racing in December.”
On the the second day of racing, Mia had team mate Hazel Magill join her for the post Omnium Track day, whereby Hazel Magill said: “I’m not a track rider, but track cycling is certainly growing on me. Its been fun racing with Mia, and I can tell she has so much potential. I just love being involved with this team, how we grow together and strive for success as a unit is something I’m grateful for.”
Hazel won all the events on the day, making her birthday a day for celebrations.
